What to Expect

When you begin seeking mental health services in Rhode Island, it's natural to have questions about what the therapy process will look like—and that's perfectly okay. Working with me as a licensed mental health professional means you'll have a compassionate guide to help you navigate life's challenges and address a wide range of mental health issues. Whether you're dealing with anxiety disorders, depression, relationship issues, or persistent mental illness, I am here to support your journey toward personal growth and improved well-being.

Picture this: during your first therapy session, you'll have the opportunity to share your story in a nonjudgmental space—no judgement, no interrupting, just genuine listening. I will listen attentively as you discuss your mental health concerns, life transitions, and the goals you hope to achieve through mental health counseling. This initial conversation helps lay a strong foundation for our work together, ensuring that you feel heard and understood from the very beginning. Not sure what to expect from that first session? Think of it as a warm-up conversation where you get to be the expert on your own life.

Therapy sessions are tailored to your unique needs and may include individual therapy, family therapy, or group therapy—whatever fits your situation best. I draw on evidence-based practices—such as solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed care, and clinical mental health counseling—to help you develop effective coping skills, boost your self-esteem, and manage emotional pain. If appropriate, medication management may also be discussed as part of a holistic approach to mental health treatment (because sometimes our brains need a little extra chemical support, and that's completely normal).

Accessibility is a key part of modern mental health care—and thank goodness for that. I offer telehealth services, making it easier to access counseling services from the comfort of your own home (pajama pants optional, but I won't judge). When considering therapy, it's important to review practical factors such as insurance plans, therapy cost, and whether your provider is in-network or out-of-network, so you can find the right therapist for your needs. Wondering about the logistics? Think of it like shopping for any important service—you want quality, affordability, and a good fit.

Therapy is a collaborative and empowering process—not something that happens to you, but something you actively participate in. With my support as a skilled mental health professional, you'll learn coping strategies, practice self-compassion, and build resilience to navigate anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. By investing in your mental well-being, you're taking an important step toward meaningful change, greater self-acceptance, and a more fulfilling life. Whether you're seeking help for yourself or a loved one, counseling services in Rhode Island are here to provide a safe, supportive environment where you can thrive—because everyone deserves that chance to flourish.

I will assist you in recognizing and building on already existing strengths to improve your ability to cope, communicate, and think in healthy, constructive ways.

Just taking the first step in seeking therapy can be difficult, stress-inducing, and overwhelming. That is why from the beginning of the process I strive to create a safe, open, and warm environment for individuals. My therapeutic approach is evidence-based and tailored to the whole person, focusing on all aspects of your well-being. I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach while incorporating aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing as appropriate. My style is goal-oriented, helping you set and achieve meaningful outcomes. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy options to meet your needs. Whether you are feeling stuck, navigating anxiety, or facing other challenges, I will assist you in recognizing and building on already existing strengths to improve your ability to cope, communicate, and think in healthy, constructive ways. When working with couples I am trained in both Gottman’s Couples Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). I also believe the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance to a successful therapy process, therefore I will spend time cultivating a trusting partnership with you.

I received my master’s degree in clinical community counseling from Johns Hopkins here in Maryland before becoming a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC). Clinically, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals and families from diverse populations and life circumstances, with a range of concerns including anxiety/stress, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorder, and others.
